Free AVG Update January 2011

When my computer started everything was frozen. So i restarted (held down power button). Same thing when i restarted. So i took out the battery. Same thing. So then i went into safe mode and my computer worked fine. I then restarted again normally. IT was still frozen. So i restarted in safe mode and i figured since i still had my old virus protection (trend micro pro) it was that they were both on and i know ur not suppose to have 2 virus protections. So i disabled that one. But i restarted and it was still frozen. So i restored my computer by going into safe mode. I then installed AVG again, but first i set my trend micro off. But it still would freeze when i restarted my computer.
Does anyone know a reason for this?
My computer works perfectly fine without AVG 2011 but i love that virus protection and really want it but it is messing up my computer. Please help.avg gave me BIG hassles as well, and it is very clunky. I took it out, and installed Avast (the free edition) – it works quietly in the background, and tells you, on its own that it has updated.
